When Chris Walker approached me about his idea of doing a tribute album for Al Jarreau, I jumped at the opportunity to help. Chris was the bass player and music director for Al. He’s also an amazing singer. The ideas was that we would create video for crowdfunding on Kickstarter, but some of the band members live in California. So, it looked like I was going to California with Chris to film them. I had never been to California, but to make this video project happen, I flew to Cali with Chris and we filmed some amazing musicians and it was pretty epic to say the least.
I had the privilege of meeting and filming Dave Koz, the Grammy Nominated, platinum selling jazz saxophonist. That alone is pretty amazing.. but to top it off I sat down and filmed Ryan Jarreau.. Al’s son. Super nice guy.
I planned for about a month, meticulously combing through my gear to make sure I had everything I needed. Checked Pelican Case Air, Carry-on bag with Ursa Mini 4.6K and personal bag with lenses.. I had pictured it all in my head and it went smooth as butter.. I don’t know why i get so nervous, but it does help to be organized and ready because you only get one shot.
I’m blessed to have been a part of this truly legendary project. A tribute to Al Jarreau.. I can’t thank Chris enough for giving me the opportunity to work on this great project.
