Two Stations, One System: Websites for KTSU 90.9 and The Vibe Houston

KTSU 90.9 FM is Texas Southern University’s community station, and The Vibe Houston is its hip-hop, R&B, and neo-soul channel. Hodgson Agency designed both websites. They share one system underneath, so the station can run two very different brands without maintaining two different sites.

KTSU 90.9, The Choice

ktsuradio.com opens on whoever is on the air right now, with the host, the show, and the time slot, and a live player that follows you through the site. The program schedule, podcasts, station news, and community events sit one click away. Because it is a public station, the pages people need for support are built in: membership, business underwriting, volunteering, car donation, and new music submission. The KTSU app for iPhone and Android is promoted on every page.

The Vibe Houston

vibehouston.com is the same station with the volume up. The homepage leads with a video promo and the current show, the palette moves from KTSU maroon to Vibe gold, and the content leans toward artists, Vibe exclusives, and the weekly schedule. It has its own app, its own social channels, and its own support pages, and it links back to KTSU so listeners can move between the two.

One build, two stations

Both sites run on WordPress with the same radio framework, so the live player, now-playing data, and show schedules work the same way on each. Station staff update shows, hosts, news, and events from one familiar editor, and a design change made for one station can be carried to the other in an afternoon. Streaming runs through the station’s own broadcast provider, so the websites stay up even when the studio changes equipment.
